The garment, footwear and bag industry has played an important role in contributing to the socio-economic development of Cambodia since the 1990s. In fact, the sector started with 64 factories with about 80,000 workers in 1997, but has now grown to more than 1,200 factories with about 800,000 workers. Increase from US $ 40 in 1997 to US $ 194 for 2022, and if you add up the benefits, a worker can earn an average of between US $ 211 and US $ 222 per month. In total, at least 2.5 million to 3 million Cambodians benefit from this sector. The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training will play an important role in implementing three of the five measures issued, including: First. Continue to strengthen human resources to increase productivity and create career paths for workers, the second measure continues to improve working conditions and well-being of workers, and the third measure to promote domestic and foreign investment in value-added industries High. As a target for 2022 and beyond, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has already set out and is implementing a number of specific activities that are in line with the measures set out in this strategy, including:
1. Continue to effectively implement the 10 high recommendations of the Prime Minister.
2. Continue to strive to successfully implement the five priority strategies set out in the Strategic Plan for Employment Development and Vocational Training 2019-2023 as well as relevant national policies.
3-Continue to strengthen inter-ministerial inspections and modernize labor inspections using information technology systems and risk levels of factories as a basis for inspections and labor inspections once / year and ensure efficiency, quality and transparency. In providing services by putting all the services of the Ministry into the information technology nursery.
4-Continue to strengthen the mechanism for resolving labor disputes to get a higher cure rate and turn a factory into an enterprise, a safe community of workers with better working conditions, productivity, work attitude, social responsibility and harmonization of professional relations. At the same time, it continues to strengthen the General Secretariat of the Commission for Resolving Strikes and Demonstrations in all areas in order to implement effectively in accordance with the directives and regulations of the Royal Government. 5- Continue to strengthen the mechanism of the National Minimum Wage Council to ensure the negotiation of the minimum wage and other benefits in a harmonious manner.
